Becoming Butterfly imagines Hong Kong as three female celebrities. Amongst the polarizing discussions about Hong Kong, claims about realities become a battlegrond of ideology and often with violent consequences. Can a courageous activist like Denise Ho, an injured beauty like Siu Yam-yam, and a forgotten entertainer like Sharla Cheung become allogories of the complexities that Hong Kong is facing? Becoming Butterfly, as an experimentation, attempts to show the struggle of understanding and the power of misinterpretation in the media landscape. 

It includes video collages of recordings during manifestations, reality show interviews, and cinema footages. Accompanied by the Cantonese opera of the Butterfly Lovers and song by Ho by the same name, similar to their romantic devotion, Becoming Butterfly asks whether struggles of sovereignty is also mythic pathos.
   

    《化蝶》将香港想象成三位女性名人。在关于香港的两极分化讨论中，对何为现实的解释成为了意识形态的战场，且通常充斥了种种暴力。如何韵诗这样冲锋陷阵的行动者、邵音音这般受伤的美人或张敏这样被淡忘的影星，她们在时间里的窘境，是否也是香港所面临的复杂问题的隐喻？本作品试图展示在媒体景观中理解“对方”的困难和误读的力量。
      伴随着粤剧《梁祝》和何韵诗歌曲《化蝶》，混合集会时的录像、真人秀访谈以及电影片段，本作品想问之于主权的挣扎是否也如化蝶般悲怆。
